Village of Nea Skioni
Nea Skioni is a small settlement, established on the place of the former fishing village. It appeared fairly recently, in 1918. In the vicinity of this place, there was the city of Skioni in ancient times. The rumors say that it appeared after the Trojan War. Modern Nea Skioni is a traditional fishing village with a beautiful lagoon and favorable climate, comfortable enough for pace relaxation and starting an overland journey. A few miles away from Nea Skioni, you can visit the church of Panagia Faneromeni, preserving a marble cube with a face of Holy Mary. Another popular site is the artificial lake. It is regarded as one of the largest man-made ponds on the peninsula. On the way to Hanioti, on the hill, there is an old temple of Agios Athanasios. This place provides exceptional landscapes in the area.
Nea Skioni beach
The best piece of Nea Skioni beach is found on the left side of the promenade. It is quite comfortable and receives “Blue Flag” awards during the last few years, which proves its quality and safety for recreation. When compared to less popular beaches on the peninsula, the beach in Nea Skioni provides plenty of space for visitors. You can hardly find this place overcrowded.
